STARS mission is to engage and empower students in crystal-growing, crystallography, and structural biology. In the last three years, we have organized over 11 different events, such as crystal-growing competitions, crystallography workshops, skills-building series, lecture series, crystal-growing competitions, and crystal-growing summer camps with 350+ student participants cumulatively.

STARS is currently applying for 501(c)3 tax-exempt, tax-deductible status as a public nonprofit organization to raise more funds and develop its programs and events further. To achieve this public status, the application reviewers like to see that the applying organization has small pockets of support from a lot of people to demonstrate that the nonprofit organization is a publicly supported organization.

As a public nonprofit, we are dedicated to the students in our communities. We aim to inspire and build up the next generation of scientists in structural biology. If you support our cause in spreading the love of science and research to grade school and undergraduate students, we would appreciate it if you support us by making a donation today: https://gofund.me/cb45fca6

We are very thankful to the donors from over the summer for their support of the 2025 high school crystallography workshop (GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/6f08539b ). We raised $850 and now are able to bring the workshop to high school students in the spring 2025 semester. Thank you very much for your help in making the workshop in the spring semester possible. If there are additional funds after the event is finished, the surplus funds will be used at STARS nonprofit's discretion to further its educational and charitable purposes.

While the fundraiser for the 2025 high school workshop event has been a success, STARS humbly asks for your help to raise funds for the 2025 STARS Travel Grant and enable students to attend and present at the national level 2025 American Crystallographic Association (ACA) conference and further inspire them about structural biology and crystallography.

We believe that the collaborative environment and ingenuity at the conference is deeply impactful and inspiring to STARS members and that attending and presenting at the conferences will help them channel some of that inspiration and energy back to the STARS branches in the following school year.  Take a look at the origin story page to understand the details on why we believe the importance of attending and presenting at the ACA conference for STARS student development and STARS program growth:
