CRYSTALLOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS
Crystallography Workshops are generally one-day events that introduce new students to crystallography and structural biology research through a combination of a lecture, lunch, and hands-on lab sessions.
Jan. 2024 Crystallography Workshop, growing our first lysozyme protein crystals, as guided by Dr. Xu Liu of Emory University
Example of such a program usually includes:
(1) a one hour invited lecture to help students learn about crystallography and therapeutic drug design,
(2) a 1.5 hour lunch session with two to four faculty, professors, or post-doctoral associates to provide students a chance to ask questions related to research, academia, and industry, and
(3) a three hour workshop on growing protein crystals to provide students a chance to see what wet-lab and structural biology research can be like.

Purpose: Provide students with an insightful, experience on what crystallography or structural biology research may entail through the guest faculty lecture, engage students with each other and foster community through the lunch session and hands-on workshop sessions, make connections with faculty and enable students to hear and learn from faculty about research and career possibilities through the lunch session, and serve as an event to draw students to the STARS club as prospective members.

SKILLS-BUILDING and LECTURE SERIES
Skills-building series provide students interested in research with the opportunity to learn how to, for example, (1) cold-email research professors to obtain a lab position, (2) prepare and submit a resume for a position, and (3) prepare for and practice for a research interview.

Purpose: Provide information and assistance to students interested in joining undergraduate research as well as serve as an event to draw students to the STARS club as prospective members.
Fall 2024 Skills-building series session on how to build and polish your resume, as organized by STARS Atlanta branch (Sara Hunihan) and Georgia Tech CommLab.
Fall 2024 Skills-building series session on how to go in for an interview; two skills-building session attendees practicing interviewing each other during the third session of the Skills-building series

Lecture series serves as a platform for showcasing research from faculty and professors on campus and to engage students with their research work.
Purpose: Provide students the chance to hear about crystallography- and structural biology-related research that is occurring on campus.
